Since moving from Colorado to Belize over 2 years ago, Betsy Rosenlund now considers herself an Ambergris Caye local. With a big heart and a strong desire to give back to the people in the place she calls home, Betsy has remained active in community betterment organizations including: Rotaract, SHINE, and Raise Me Up. She has taken on meaningful positions within the organization including helping to lead a weekly jewelry-making class with the local women and regularly serving at Colleen’s Kitchen, a part of the San Pedro Food Bank. Betsy was asked to sit on the Board of Directors for this impactful organization because of her dedication and desire to improve the lives of others.
SHINE is a non-profit organization that was started by the 2014 Miss San Pedro, Michelle Nuñez, as a place for high-school girls to come together and be empowered to reach their fullest potential. This year, SHINE has expanded to include a women’s jewelry making collective, and in the future, will host business classes for women in the community. SHINE is part of a larger community organization, called Raise Me Up. They operate the San Pedro Food Bank/Colleen’s Kitchen, literacy programs at several island schools, and will soon open the islands first children’s shelter.
