Although Ambergris Caye is a small island, there is no shortage of ways to stay in shape. With everything from CrossFit to yoga, there is surely something to fit every need.
Crossfit
If you are already a “crossfitter” or looking to get started on this challenging workout, San Pedro has two “boxes” where you can get your WOD (Work Out of the Day) on.
CrossFit Wolf, located in the San Pedrito neighborhood just west of the Maya Air terminal, is the newest box on the island. Opened in September of 2016, CrossFit Wolf has quickly become a favorite workout destination for locals and visitors alike. Classes are at: 5:00, 6:00, and 7:30 am, 5:30, and 6:45 pm Monday through Friday, and on Saturdays at 8:30 am. Daily, weekly and monthly pricing packages are available. Crossfit San Pedro Town - WOD Zone is located just west of Island City Market and Bowen & Bowen. Classes are held Monday – Friday 6:00, 7:00, and 9:30 am; and 5:30, and 6:45 pm. Saturdays class is at 8:00 am but it is a good idea to call before on Saturday. CrossFit San Pedro Town will soon be offering CrossFit Kids. Traditional Gym
If a traditional gym setting is your preferred way of staying fit, there are plenty of options for you. First up is the San Pedro Fitness Club, located at the Grand Baymen Gardens. This gym offers a variety of free weights, weight machines, treadmills, stationary bicycles, and elliptical machines. In addition, members and visitors to the club have access to the double tennis courts and the recently renovated swimming pool. Daily, weekly, and monthly passes available. Located in the center of town is the newest gym, Belize Fitness. Located on the third floor of the Sancas Plaza, this facility offers free weights, weight machines, a variety of cardio equipment, as well as personal training and group fitness classes on the rooftop. Nutritional planning is also offered. Showers and locker rooms are available for use by members. Weekly and monthly passes available. Train Station Fitness Club located on Laguna Drive, just a few blocks south of the Barry Bowen Bridge, is a popular workout destination for visitors and guests who live in the northern part of San Pedro Town, or north of the bridge. In addition to free weights, weight machines, and a variety of cardio machines, Train Station also offers personal training and group fitness classes at 6:00 am and 6:00 pm. Yoga
If your idea of a perfect workout includes sun salutations and savasana, be sure to check out either Ak’bol Yoga Retreat or Zen Belize for your daily dose of yoga. Ak’bol is located about 1 mile north of the Barry Bowen Bridge. Classes are held on the resort’s dock, overlooking the Caribbean Sea Monday through Saturday at 9:00 am and Sundays at 10:00 am. Classes are $15 USD. Mats and props are available. All levels welcome. After class, hop into the sea to cool off, or enjoy breakfast at Ak'Bol Resort’s restaurant. Zen Belize is located on Sea Star Street, just a few blocks from the Grand Baymen Gardens. They offer both Vinyasa and Hatha yoga classes at their open air studio. Cardio Dance Fitness
If you have ever taken a Zumba class, this class is similar, but kicked up a notch or two. Expect to get your heartbeat racing and your muscles pumping as you dance, punch, lift, and kick your way through this energy filled class. In addition to dance fitness, instructor Gerry Badillo incorporates circuit and HIIT (high intensity interval training) workouts into his classes. Classes are held Monday-Friday at 6:00 am, 8:30 am, 5:00 pm, 6:00 pm and 7:15 pm. The studio is located next to Barrel Bar on the lagoon side, just north of San Pedro High School. $15 USD per week.
