ItÂs been revealed that after a successful inaugural year in 2012, the Annual Summer Music Camp is definitely going to be held again. Â Last year, the youngsters of San Pedro Town were able to participate in an activity that was not only fun, but equipped them with skills to play instruments and learn the art of music. Â It was enjoyed so much, that it will be held again this year, with the San Pedro High School campus hosting the event between July 26 and August 15. This time round, adults can attend too.
Announcing that the event would be returning, Carlos Perrote said that he would be leading activities once again. Â Perrote is a successful musician and already has three albums under his belt: Cuenta Conmigo, Twin Boy and OMOLEWA OSAIN. Â In San Pedro, he is a well-known figure, and is regarded throughout Belize as one of the countryÂs most popular musicians. Â He enjoyed the music camp of 2013 so much that he has been giving keyboard, vocal and guitar lessons on a weekly basis ever since, using the Little Angels Pre-school location to host Saturday classes for budding musicians.
As part of the 2nd Annual Summer Music Camp, classes will be scheduled from Monday to Friday, with each day split into three divisions. Â Between 8:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. a beginnerÂs class will offer younger children the chance to try out instruments and learn how they sound. Â Teenage lessons, which adults can attend too, will be held between 10:30 a.m. to midday. Â Meanwhile, a 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. class will be held for advanced pupils who are aged between six and 11 years. Â Throughout all classes, the basics of music handwriting, musical notes and music elements will be taught, with students also learning how to play Garifuna and Afro-Cuban Percussion, as well as Steel Pan. Â The three-week course costs $180 and is split into two deposits.
As a change to the 2013 event, this yearÂs music camp will also include a number of specialized instrument lessons for keyboards and guitar. Â Each participant must bring his or her own instrument.
For the children of San Pedro, the event will be a great chance to learn about music and find a new passion. Â With last yearÂs camp being so successful, it is hoped that 2014Âs event will be even bigger and better.
