As previously reported, Holy Cross Anglican School is currently playing host to a number of volunteer dentists and dental technicians. Several Ambergris Caye dental experts have been joined by those from the US in a program that is supposed to ensure children take care of their teeth and gums.  Now, after a successful two weeks, additional technicians and dentists have flown in from Michigan and North Carolina.

San Pedro Town is extremely lucky to have the ongoing dental care, with the latest free clinics set up to see as many local children as possible. Â The second set of experts is comprised of three U.S. citizens and another three local experts. Â Having offered his services at the Smile Dental Clinic for the past seven years, Doctor Alex Wills is heading the six-people team. Â His wife Nancy Wills from North Carolina, who also happens to be a dental hygienist, and Dr. Ken Beading from Michigan, have also flown in. Â Meanwhile, Bonnie Musbach, Norma Chin and Eleanor Carrera, three local dental assistants, are continuing to offer their services.

Over the last several years, Dr. Wills has seen more than 300 children, many of whom are students of Holy Cross Anglican School.  He is well known to the youngsters, knowing many by name, and a lot of the students are happy to see their favorite dentists back on Ambergris Caye once again.  Talking about the importance of the Smile Dental Clinic, Dr. Wills said: “This Clinic is the best thing that could happen to the children of this area.  It is a blessing and none of this would be possible without Dr. Johnson and other volunteers such as Bonnie and other local dental assistants.”

One of the things that makes the clinic so productive is that it is fully equipped with all dental equipment necessary, meaning that the dental professionals can perform all the required hygiene work on their patients.  For youngsters visiting, this can range from a quick clean up to more in-depth treatment, including dental sealants and fillings.  “The children that come to The Smile Dental Clinic are getting first class treatment.  They are getting the same caliber of dental care that I practice in my private clinic back in North Carolina,” Dr. Wills said.
