An important step forward for the Belize Tourism Board (BTB) has been made after the first flight by Delta Airlines arrived in the country from Los Angeles. Â The new non-stop flight from the popular American city will allow those living in Belize to enjoy the benefits of increased tourism, while also providing a great getaway spot for those wanting a vacation.
On December 21st, the inaugural flight from Los Angeles to Belize was operated by Delta Airlines.  The first plane touched down at BelizeÂs Philip SW Goldson International Airport just after 7am, leaving a couple of hours later at 10.30am for its trip back to LA.  Many of the first passengers said that theyÂd been impressed with the Âgreat service and convenience of the new route, and each traveler was also awarded a certificate to show theyÂd been on the first flight.
The new route between Los Angeles and Belize is important as the American city is home to a large community of Belizean expats. Â Indeed, even on the first flight to Belize, a few Belizean American families touched down on the South American shores.
The new flight from Delta Airlines takes approximately seven hours and provides seats for up to 160 passengers.  Services leave LA at midnight and arrive in Belize the following morning at 7am.  The return flight leaves just a short while later. Although this is only a weekly flight, which operates on Saturdays, the route should not only assist the BTB increase interest in traveling to the nation, but should also be of great help to Belizeans who have moved to the USA.
Attending the landing on the inaugural flight was Manuel Heredia Jr., the Minister of Tourism and Culture.  He was joined by Maria Fernanda Price, the Regional Director for Delta Airlines in the Caribbean.  ÂThis flight has been an aim for BTB to increase our tourism.  The flight will act as a gateway to travelers that once had to take several flights to get to Belize, Mr. Heredia Jr. explained.  Meanwhile, Ms. Price added that she welcomed the cooperation from BelizeÂs Custom and Immigration Departments for helping the flight come to fruition.
With the New Year almost here, the start of the Los Angeles to Belize flight is certainly something to be celebrated.
