Building a sense of community is important wherever people live, and helping to support local areas can have a substantial impact on the surroundings.

It’s been revealed that community spirit within San Pedro Town is alive and thriving, with the Lions International having raised large sums of money to fund local projects.  With more future events planned, it seems as if the Lions are keen to continue providing aid to those who need it.

Revealing that their hard work for 2013 has paid off, the San Pedro Lions said that the first eight months of the year had seen them fund community projects up to the value of $18,768. Â Many fundraising events have been held, with people around the town participating in bingo, den rental, donations, BBQs and other fundraisers, allowing the Lions to help poorer residents with educational and medical expenses. Â Regular contributions for the Dr. Otto Rodriguez San Pedro PolyClininc II have also been continued, with the Lions thanking locals for the ongoing support that people show the charity.

In addition to demonstrating how generous people have been throughout this year, the San Pedro Lions revealed details of some upcoming events that they hope will generate even more funds. Â The Lions Club is already accepting candidates for their 2013/14 Queen Pageant; the winner of which will take the prestigious title of Lions Queen.

Those participating need to be between the ages of 16 and 19, and the exciting pageant has been scheduled for November 9th, 2013. Â Young ladies wanting to apply can contact Marina Kay for further details. Â In addition, the San Pedro Lions would like to hear from local businesses interested in sponsoring the event and helping fund the celebratory day.

Meanwhile, the Lions will also be putting the money to good use on October 5th by helping to renovate the Roman Catholic Elementary School’s bathrooms.  Volunteers with time to spare can contact the group to offer their skills for the day and help to make San Pedro Town an even better place to live.  Finally, October 19th will mark the San Pedro Lions Club’s 39th anniversary.  Dancing, music and food are expected for this celebratory event at which a number of new members will join the club and the Lions can continue to raise awareness for local projects.
