Residents and visitors to Ambergris Caye have enjoyed a special free concert put on by the Salvadoran military band. On the 21st September, the island held a dazzling musical night for all to enjoy, with those living in Ambergris Caye condos and residences able to enjoy the gift from the Government of El Salvador.

There'’s always a lot to do in Ambergris Caye, and September has been no different, with a month-long series of spectacular events to enjoy. As a gift from the El Salvadorian government, 64 of the “La Banda Sinfonica de la Fuerza Armada de El Salvador” musicians arrived in San Pedro Town. As part of the ongoing September celebrations to honor Belize’s patriotic events, the band played for locals and visitors alike, allowing everyone to enjoy an extremely pleasurable musical evening.

Before the event began, a short ceremony was held where the renditions of both countries national anthems were played.  Manuel Heredia Jr., the Area Representative, along with San Pedro Town Mayor, Daniel Guerrero, were both in attendance.  They addressed the band and those attending the evening and spoke favorably of the long standing and great relationship that El Salvador and Belize continues to enjoy.  His Excellency Rolando Roberto Brizuela Ramos, the Salvadoran Ambassador to Belize, also spoke and said the 64 musicians present were the best of those from El Salvador's 16 varied military bands.

After the short ceremony, the military orchestra then played a free concert that lasted for around two hours and captivated all those in attendance. The music for the evening was a very enjoyable mix of genres, with harmonies composed by Ray Conniff and Agustin Lara to famous pop songs by bands such as The Beatles and Abba. A large crowd gathered for the concert, with all attendees showing their appreciation for the band with rapturous applause and a standing ovation at the end of the evening. The orchestra will now continue to tour across Belize throughout September as part of the ongoing celebrations for the 32nd Independence festivities.

For those living in Ambergris Caye condos and surrounding areas, the concert was a huge success and enjoyed by all. As the end of September nears, the month of events begins to draw to a close, but the festivities are, by no means, over.
