San Pedranos love to party, and New Years Eve is a perfect opportunity to do so. Â Long after we had left a friend's private party and crawled into bed, the local San Pedranos were kicking up their heels... They greeted the first dawn of 2012... Then kept on going!

We were proud to make it past midnight. But clearly, we missed the action in town. I am continually amazed by the Belizeans endurance when it comes to partying into the wee hours of the morning. It must be a genetically inherited trait!

It isn't just the young folks who party all night. We took a Christmas morning walk around our neighborhood. It was obvious that our local neighbors' Christmas Eve parties had never shut down...

Since we weren't able to keep up, here's the San Pedro Sun article that describes the New Year's Eve party at the Town Square, as well as the most popular local night spots.

Thousands of revelers took to the streets early in the night of Saturday December 31st to gather at their favorite places with their best friends to bring in the New Year. The streets were buzzing with foot traffic, golf carts and even the pets were out in full force.

Belize Hutz and Raul’s Grille held its grand opening on Saturday night, with the Minister of Tourism, Hon. Manuel Heredia Jr, cutting the ribbon and food and drinks galore to follow. Entertainment was provided by San Pedro’s Punta boys.

Central Park was jam packed with people awaiting the countdown and fireworks. While many places on the island hosted their own New Year count down, the major hot spots were: Holiday Hotel – where their usual patrons gathered to bring in the New Year.

Another hot spot was the Lion’s Den. The Den was roaring with its usual crowd by 11PM and went on through until 9AM on January 1st. Cool J’s kept the crowd well entertained throughout the night and past daybreak. Despite the many reports of fights, thankfully, there were no serious incidents. Happy News Year’s San Pedro!
