History of Grand Baymen
San Pedro Town was founded in 1848 on Ambergris Caye, prior to that it was inhabited by indigenous Mayans as a cultural trade center for centuries. In more recent years, it has evolved from a small quiet fishing village into a disarmingly appealing Caribbean retreat.
San Pedro Town is in a consolidation phase of development and property values have been steadily rising as a result. Early development in San Pedro lent itself to small independent resorts that were built on residential size lots, and lacked amenities. Many of these small operations are now being acquired and rebuilt into new resorts, but expansion is restricted by lack of available land, to the detriment of amenities. Additionally, many resorts are far from town and are only accessible by boat, leaving the unwary traveler isolated, and dependent upon boat schedules and good weather to visit the town.
Recent prices for beachfront condominiums range between $400,000 to $800,000, with units being upscale than their predecessors. These higher prices have eliminated the entry-priced unit.
The Baymen Garden property was acquired in early 2007 by ECI Development, as a new piece to be developed within the ECI group. It will be one component of the Grand Baymen Community. The property was adquired to allow ECI to offer reasonably priced condominiums with extensive amenities to those purchasers who prefer to live near San Pedro Town.
