Now that December has arrived, many people are gearing up for the holiday season. At this time of year, homes become decorated with festive lights and there’s a buzz around San Pedro Town like never before. For those who want an extra incentive to get involved with the festivities, this year the ninth Annual Caribbean Christmas Colors Contest will be held.

To further the training that medical professionals were provided with earlier in the month, the Red Cross and the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) have taken two days out of their busy schedule to train 46 people living in and around San Pedro Town with first aid skills. Earlier in the month, Canadian charity Bandage International visited Belize to train medical professionals with better life-saving skills. Now an additional community of first aid responders has been developed.

The Miss San Pedro Lions event is a popular annual celebration that many look forward to, both those who participate and those who want to attend the evening. On November 23rd, several beautiful ladies took to the stage to try and win the title, with Arlethe Lima being crowned Miss San Pedro Lions Queen for the year 2013/14.

The government of Belize has happily announced that it is developing a Growth and Poverty Reduction Strategy that will run between 2014 and 2017. For residents of San Pedro Town and other local areas, the report will be welcome news and offers assurances that the well-being of Belize’s citizens remains a top priority of the government.
