Now that December has arrived, many people are gearing up for the holiday season.  At this time of year, homes become decorated with festive lights and there’s a buzz around San Pedro Town like never before.  For those who want an extra incentive to get involved with the festivities, this year the ninth Annual Caribbean Christmas Colors Contest will be held.

Every year, hundreds of residents brighten up their homes and front yards with twinkling festive lights and beautiful Christmas decorations as a way to really indulge in the season of goodwill.  This year, decorations are already going up on homes as residents prepare to make the most of the few weeks before December 25th; that special day that’s celebrated all around the world. For the ninth consecutive year, business owners and residents are being asked to compete in the Annual Caribbean Christmas Colors Contest and outdo each other in the spirit of some festive and friendly rivalry.

Judging won’t be taking place until December 14th, so there’s still plenty of time to get involved.  On Saturday 14th, the contest’s judges will begin their journey throughout every nook and cranny of San Pedro Town to search out the most creatively and exotically decorated homes and businesses.  Not only will they be judging the holiday decorations as they journey through the town, but they’ll also have the perfect opportunity to wish people a Happy Christmas and enjoy the wonderful lights and festive treats in place.  Then, on December 20th, the winners of this year’s contest will be announced.

Anyone wanting to get involved doesn’t need to apply, but simply needs to get creative and start decorating their home.  The judges will look at everyone’s attempts, no matter how large or small, and make their decision based on all the entries.  There are a wide variety of ideas people can utilize, from homemade and store-bought decorations in their yard, to using figurines to create nativity scenes.  Light displays are also welcomed and encouraged to make a true Christmas extravaganza.  Though the prizes haven’t yet been announced, past winners have received home appliances, tours, dinner and even golf cart rentals, so it’s a great opportunity to have some fun and maybe win a little reward.
