It has been revealed that the renovations at Boca del Rio Park have finally been completed, allowing residents from San Pedro Town to enjoy the new facilities. After local businessman Don Listwin offered a generous donation, a new playground set, four gazebos and basketball nets have been installed.

San Pedro Town Council (SPTC) has said that it has wanted to offer more outside leisure facilities to residents for some time.  Whilst the area has a lot of natural beauty, it’s important for the town to have safe and secure areas to be used, particularly by children and teenagers.  As part of the most recent renovation, four gazebo-styled palapas were built in Boca del Rio Park, complete with a picnic table beneath each.  The basketball court was repainted and new nets were installed, whilst a completely new playground set was constructed to give kids a great area to play in.  Finally, new shrubs and flowers were planted to landscape the area and make it a beautiful place to relax and enjoy.

Mayor Daniel Guerrero said that the completed renovation works signaled the start of some major new plans to give residents of San Pedro access to better recreational spaces.  Mayor Guerrero said: “We believe that people need a place where they can go as a family, a place that the children can play safely.  That is what we have created here at the Boca del Rio Park, a place for the whole family to have fun and enjoy the beach.”

In addition to the renovation work, SPTC has also decided to restrict traffic, ensuring that the park is now pedestrian only. Â This has been done to provide children with a safe place to play without the concern of them getting in the way of vehicles. Â One particular problem had been the use of golf carts, which were commonly used in the park and put kids in danger. Â Having blocked the entrance to the park, these vehicles can no longer enter, giving parents peace of mind that their children are safe. Â In addition, the banning of golf carts should help to reduce the beach erosion.
