Ambergris Caye Catamaran Trip with Seaduced

Sailing and Snorkeling on Ambergris Caye

If there’s a more stunning way to experience Ambergris Caye’s beauty than from the trampoline of a catamaran under sail, I’ve yet to discover it… This little island’s most alluring feature is the inviting Caribbean Sea and reef that adorn its shores. I relish every opportunity to board a catamaran to get up close and personal with the barrier reef’s natural treasures…

Whenever possible, Mike and I indulge in a snorkeling day trip via a catamaran tour. That allows us to combine two favorite pastimes. Since our special friends recently visited for a month, we made a point of getting out on the water several times. Today I’ll describe one of these favorite pastimes. The next post will cover two different snorkeling tour companies who offer a great catamaran day trip on Ambergris Caye.

The snorkeling and diving near the Mesoamerican reef are especially enjoyable in the spring and summer. And swimming in the offshore water is a different experience than frolicking at a beach. The aquamarine water is crystal clear and bathtub warm, from April to September.  You’ll see very little sea grass. With snorkeling mask in place, you’ll blend into the underwater kaleidoscope of vibrantly colored and patterned reef fish, coral, and sea creatures, large and small…

Mike and I have taken many day boat trips since we first arrived in Belize, over 10 years ago. But when sailing on a catamaran you feel the connection to the Caribbean Sea… The natural lighting, sounds, smells, and sensations of the surroundings create a natural high...

Lounging on Catamaran Trampoline

We relish lounging at the boat’s bow, on the springy trampoline. It’s the perfect place to sink in and relax, liquid refreshment in hand. You’re surrounded by every imaginable shade and shimmer of aqua. The crystalline water below is so close… The patterns on the seafloor are clearly outlined, as they flash by.  You’re practically nose level with the dolphins you spot swimming by. The Caribbean breeze wafts over your sun drenched body, and the sea spray keeps you cool.

Fortunately, the water inside the reef is most often calm. So unless you’re prone to sea sickness, this is a worthwhile indulgence you won’t want to miss.  You could, of course, take a speed boat instead.  It will get you to your destination faster. But, when in Belize, why hurry? A catamaran is carried along with the winds… Why not relax and go with the flow?

The view of the Ambergris Caye coastline is expansive and colorful, when seen from a boat. As we sailed north towards Mexico Rocks, we enjoyed identifying the various developments and resorts. Everything looks so different. And the perception of the island is even more appealing when seen from the sea.

When you come to visit Grand Baymen, the Exotic Caye Beach Resort staff will be happy to set up whatever sailing, snorkeling or fishing trip you prefer. More more info... .

In the next post I’ll tell you about the two snorkeling spots we recently visited, and the local companies that took us out for a day…And if you are interested in renting a catamaran for a few days, or a week, TMM is a local company. For more info about TMM...
